Publishing Nonsense

So, my Sysill story was published and I ended up getting a lot of fan mail from it. Or should I say, fan NEOmail. I got lots of neomails from other neopets users saying they loved my story and that it was funny, yadda yadda yadda. Many wanted me to write another. I’ve been thinking about it, but the thing with Sysill is, you can’t force him. He’s the type of character you just can’t force to be funny.

I’ve never written much in the humor department. I like to think I have a sense of humor. It’s entirely possible that I don’t. It’s also entirely possible that I’m sitting here talking to myself on a blog that no one in their right mind would read. :-P See, that was a little funny.

Anyway, Sysill has made me happy. And since I’m so happy, and undamaged by the world of publishing, I have decided to try and submit my District One: Columbia story. I’ve been reading Stephen King’s On Writing and it has inspired me to try. There’s nothing wrong with trying. The problem is I keep revising and revising and just need to can it in the bag already. I think this is always a problem with writers; they always see something they need or want to fix.

So, today is my last and final day of editing. Tomorrow, to the rejection bin.

Another Update

I’m not sure anyone really reads this. But, alas, I have updated.

I’ve added a few stories and changed some things around. I added a new page (‘Non-Fiction’) for two of my stories that I counted as shorts, but they are really not. So, I moved them to the new page. I also added a short story that I wrote in High School for a short story book I made for an English class. And, I added a funny story I wrote for Neopets, about a crazy kid named Sysill Magnat. It was fun to write at least.

I finished with my District One story, but I’m working on editing it and maybe trying to submit it this summer. I am also working on two other short stories, one of which I mentioned in my last post. Right now, it’s tentatively called Rarity and the other has no name. Both have that science-fiction sort of flare to them.

I also sort of entered this Waterstone’s contest, but I know I’ll never win. I used part of the Rarity story for it, but I’m sure it’s not as great as they are looking for. It’s something at least. If you click the link and go to the gallery and search by surname (Leno) then you shall see it.

If you just want to read it, click below

Hello world!

System.out.println(“Hello World!”);

Sorry, joke.

Can’t Sleep

So, I set up this blog because I couldn’t sleep. And, sifted through a lot of my archives to dig up some things I’ve written in the past. Most of them are actually pretty bad now that I’m reading them over… There are two short stories I’m currently working on that I haven’t posted because I actually want to try and get them published. Or, at least one of them. Anyway, we’ll see how that goes.

District One: Columbia and Rarity (Title WIP) are the two I’m working on. Columbia is finished just being tweaked and maybe this summer I’ll get some luck. Maybe. I’m not too hopeful. I think its best to have low expectations in these matters. ;)
